Background

“In 2007 Andrew Liles invited me to collaborate on some tracks for his extensive Vortex Vault project which comprised 12 CDs. He sent me 4 backings to consider. I travelled to his studio, then in Brighton, and in one afternoon recorded some vocals. The only track I had prepared in advance was Blue Mango where I wrote the words and had an idea of what to do – the other tracks were improvised on the day, Andrew thrusting a couple of books in my hand and inviting me to use the texts as I saw fit. Panda has no words, just faux oriental warbles.

“David also contributed to this release on the track ‘Tintinnabulation Of Church Bells’.

“Andrew then constructed a piece for the Black Pool album called ‘Pizza Ring’ using samples from both David’s and my contributions – consequently in a virtual way he brought Renaldo and The Loaf together for their first ‘recording’ in 30 years.”
